Enabling 2-Step Verification using a USB security key
Please use Google Chrome for this process.
Step 1: Visit https://myaccount.google.com, login then click Sign-in & security.
Step 2: Click 2-Step Verification. You may need to enter your Google drive password and a code sent to you via text message to login.
Step 3: Scroll down and select Add Security key
Step 4: Do not yet insert the USB key, click next
Step 5: When prompted, insert the USB key into the back of your computer, press the small button located on the end of the device then click next.
Step 6: The key should now be registered, enter a name for the key and click done.
You can now remove the USB key from your computer, for security reasons, this should be kept safe at all times and only inserted when requested.
It is recommended that you keep your mobile phone as a secondary device for authentication in case you do not have the USB key to hand. If you do wish to remove it, click the pencil icon next to your phone and then click remove.
